  • time-saving
  • less costly than alternatives

  • non-adversarial
  • in the best interests of the family
  • focussed on achieving a FAIR outcome

do I need a solicitor?

Belinda may encourage you to consult a solicitor if appropriate. Belinda can give you legal information but not advice. Many people use both the services of a mediator and a solicitor in going through a separation or divorce. This is a cost-effective and time-saving route.

What is shuttle mediation?

Shuttle mediation is for people who don't feel that they can sit in the same room to mediate. Belinda will move from room to room to mediate between both parties.

how long does mediation take?

In comparison to other routes, mediation is a quick process. Most cases need 3 - 5 sessions after the initial assessment. The frequency and number of meetings depend on the complexity of the issues being discussed and your own timescale. At the assessment meeting, Belinda will be able to give you a clearer idea of how many sessions you may need.

is the agreement reached legally binding?

Mediation agreements are not legally binding and rely on the couple to put into effect what they agreed. You can take the mediation proposals to a solicitor for a legally binding agreement to be drawn up.

can I involve my children in mediation?

Belinda Yamagishi is specially qualified to involve children directly in the mediation process through child consultation which is a meeting between a child or children and a specially qualified mediator. There are many things to think about when deciding whether or not it is appropriate for an individual child to be involved directly but, with the right preparation, involving children can be very useful. If you are interested in child consultation as part of mediation, ask Belinda about this  and she will be able to explain more.
